Start of Low Carb Diet

After hearing so much about low carbohydrates dieting, I finally decided to take the plunge and try out this dieting plan.  Well, it was really sort of a mixture between reading about Atkins Diet on-and-off and hearing about my friends who have lost some weight by eating less carbs.

The Decision to Diet

First of all, I must clarify that I am not a huge guy and neither am I overweight.  But over the years, as I got older and led a more sedentary lifestyle (i.e. sitting in office the whole day), I got a pot belly.  I used to have a 6 pack but this was now lost behind all the fats.  My waist size had also balloned to 32 inches in one year.  And after buying new work pants, I soon realised that I was having trouble fitting into it barely a few months after buying them.

This is really the first time that I have tried any form of dieting and I hope to chronicle my success and failures here.  The decision to go on a diet was really a deep desire down within me to look better for myself, for my wife and just for health's sake.  I never thought that I would ever do any dieting in my ENTIRE life.

However, frequent comments by friends who have not seen me for some time seemed to suggests that I have put on lots of weight.  One friend even commented that I looked like a fat, balding uncle.  But this did not get me on my diet plan just yet.  What brought me here was that I basically was talking to certain friends at separate occasions and they brought up the topic of diet and eating low or no carbs.  It intrigued me that a diet plan could actually work by eating anything I wanted except carbs.  I decided to give it a shot since I decided that I was sort of tired of looking fat.  I was 73kg (I am guessing) when I made that decision.  Don't own any weighing scales so I can't really know if I am losing weight or not.

This is 2nd week of my low carb diet (or Day 12 to be exact).  And my wife has said that my tummy looks flatter already.  In fact, my work pants and jeans are no longer as tight as they were one week ago!  I am truly amazed.  I have actually stumbled a few times in my diet plan (by actually consuming some carbs).  But I hoped I made up for it subsequently.

Induction Phase

The Atkins Diet called for an induction phase and that was where I took things pretty seriously for the first few days.  But I did screw up here and there and didn't eat as properly as I should have.  Throughout the start of my diet, I have not done any exercise.  So mine is really a pure diet plan to lose weight.

Hope I succeed!
